Passion, fireworks, smoke, flames, burn, fever, pitch, beat, scars, breathless, rolling, deep, heart, soul, love, crystal, water, marble, rhythm, "had it all," these words describe anything but stillness. Adele sits in that chair throughout the performance, yet I dare you to call this song peaceful. There is a deep passion to the way that Adele sings this, and all her songs. (I love her voice!) Yet, she is sitting in an apparantly non-agressive pose.
From my experience, when dealing with agressive, abusive people, the best response is to be firm, yet seated. There are many benefits to this tactic. First, you can't be knocked down as easily seated, stability from a lower center of gravity. Secondly, the furniture "has your back," providing you some strength to resist attack, something to brace against. Thirdly, your arms are free to hold onto anyone else you are trying to protect, against your own body. But, finally, and foremost, the seated position, with eyes scanning the room gives you the psychological advantage over an agressive person, by making you appear less agressive, less of a moving target, more sensible, thinking, alert. And, most abusive people are, surprisingly, frightened cowards, easily warded off by resistance.
Oaths are but words, and words but wind.  ~Samuel Butler
Adele's pose is in shocking contrast to the violence of the scenes displayed, and the
passion of her words. Adele may be still, but she is certainly not "quiet." No, there is a resonating passionate feeling in her words. Yet, Samuel Butler, in the quote says that words are just wind. If words are wind, then Adele is singing a hurricane. They say there is a thin line between love and hate. But, you can't really hate someone you haven't loved. It is obvious from the video example that words have a life all their own. Words are living, breathing powerful elements of the world around us. They shape our world and they shape ourselves.
It is a given that God created us to be passionate beings. He gave us expressive faces, as I mentioned in an earlier blog. Face It He gave us body language that has nothing to do whatsoever with body motion in a functional way. (We move for both function and expression.) And, finally, He gave us speech with all its tone, inflection, pitch, and WORDS. Why in the world are we often so passionless about the way we carry out our daily lives? Our faith should be our strongest passion. Otherwise it is empty religion. That is the difference between faith and religion. Religion is structure and skeleton. Faith is a passionate fire in your soul. Jeremiah 20:9
