God is Love

Have you ever seen your house on fire?
Have you ever watched it burn?
Or seen the timbers fall to ash,
Not knowing where to turn?

Have you ever seen a baby die?
Have you watched the dead being born?
Or seen its lifeless eyes meet yours,
Or watched the mother mourn?

Have you ever seen a hopeless man?
Have you seen him laying in the street?
Or watched him cold and shivering,
Without a bite to eat?

Some questions have no answers.
Some wounds can't be explained.
Sometimes you can't find a pill,
To take away your pain.

It's not the path you're walking.
It's not your doctrine or creed.
It's not the Bylaws that you follow.
Or the Scriptures that you read.

God is not just a religion.
He is not politics or a social club.
If you are looking for something to believe in,
God is love! God is love!

Inhumanity

Where is our humanity?
Have we cloaked it in the rags of wealth?
Have we buried it beneath the sands of time?
Where is our humanity?

How long will we sit on the beach;
Attempt vainly to shape our castles?
We must look so foolish to God;
Each time the tide rushes in.

Where is our humanity?
When will we forget ourselves?
Until we can extend our hand to our brother;
We can never reach the hand of God.

Falling

This world is spinning fast,
No time for me to slow down.
I hurry through the days
Not knowing where I'm bound.

Time and life are not waiting.
The days speed hurriedly by;
Like the sands through an hour glass,
Toward the day when we die.

We live life on the brink,
So afraid that we might fall;
Unaware that the boundary before us
Could be the threshold to God's call.

The Father stands before us.
He waits with arms outstretched.
His voice speaks tender reassurance,
"Jump child, I'll catch."

We look at the gulf between us,
But, with a father's love He stands.
In faith we close our eyes,
 And fall into His waiting hands.

What Will You Do With Today

Each day is a blessing, a gift from the Lord;
God counts our life by the days.
Don't spend your minutes counting the years;
What will you do with today?

Yesterday, today, and many days more;
Add up to a lifetime we pray.
One day at a time is all you can live,
What will you do with today?

Remember to number your days with care.
Your life is not years, but days.
Remember your days are determined by God.
What will you do with today?

God counts the stars and the grains of sand.
The hairs of your head are numbered each day.
He's measuring every single day that you live.
What will you do with today?

Completion

Piece by piece,
We sift through the puzzle of life.
Where do they go?
How does each piece fit?

Like the shrapnel of war,
We see so many fragments,
And shake our heads,
Wondering if there is hope.

But, God holds the puzzle.
Our life is in His hands,
If we just lay down the pieces
And yield to His design.

He'll restore our brokenness
And make our lives whole.
He'll join each of the fragments
To make us complete in Christ.

The Weight of Silence

Can you understand the words not spoken?
Heavenly Father, do you know my heart?
If a picture is worth a thousand words,
Then who can measure the weight of silence?

Can you hear my silence?
There is so much hidden inside of me,
That the world can't see;
That no one can touch, but you.

Pain and sin built this wall.
A chasm of emptiness surrounds it.
I will give to you this empty cup,
And drink from the grace that you pour.

No longer will I withdraw in fear,
Or harden my heart and hide in its shell.
For, you are a Rock, my only hiding place.
My heart has a haven in you.

We must lay down the weights that burden us,
Casting all our cares on you.
For we can leap the walls we hide behind,
Only by the strength of your love.

Cleanse me with your Holy Fire.
Wash away my sins.
I pray Dear God, that you will save me,
And carry my weight of silence.

Escape

I hear the crying souls of a million infants slain.
Though their bodies were destroyed and to death too early chained.
One day they will leave this shallow earth of clay.
They'll open their eyes to God and on a prayer escape.

There are those without a prayer, another took their life away.
You and I we still have hope; we still have a prayer to pray.
When troubles surround us, we can leave them all behind;
And close our eyes to God, and on a prayer escape.

I see people around us, to a drug or drink they're bound.
They trade their freedom for a bottle. Their sorrows they try to drown.
They can walk out of their prison, free from chemical slavery today.
They can open their eyes to God, and on a prayer escape.

Blind Sight

I pray that God will hear my soul.
I pray that my soul will hear God.
I search through the darkness -- though I carry a light.
I search for a light as I travel the night.

I see with clarity the blindness of my heart,
And I close my eyes to the pain in others' hearts.
With my eyes closed, I say, "Why can't they see?"
With my ears deaf, I say, "Why can't they hear?"

God, blanket my soul in the coldness of the night.
Open my eyes to the sickness of the well.
Let me be a light for those alone in the dark.
Deliver me from my fear. Teach me to trust in You.

Shadows and Light

Shadows and light, complementing each the other.
Without the light, the shadows can't appear.
And, if no shadows, we could not
Feel the presence of the light so deeply.

One moment I am glowing in the light of love;
The next I see it but far off.
I feel the sharp cut of shadows;
But, I close my eyes and dream of the light.

I Can't Get Past the Love

Have you ever felt a love so strong,
You couldn't hold back tears?
Some see God's strength and shout His praise.
Some see His goodness and dance for joy.
The devils tremble when they hear His voice.
But, He is my dearest friend.
When I'm with Him, I can't get past the love.
I can't get past the love.

Have you ever heard the sweetest voice say,
"I love you, I love you, I love you!"
Have you felt the warmth of His presence
As strong as an embrace?
Have you seen the glow around you
That lights up the darkest place?
When I'm there, I can't get past the love.
I can't get past the love.

Have you ever felt the arms of God, like a haven of safety,
In the middle of a stormy night?
Have you sensed Him around you
When you were all alone?
As the smallest child of a powerful Father,
I do not fear His might, for I am His child.
When He calls me by name, I can't get past the love.
I can't get past the love.
