I am the Lord your God, I am holding your hand, so do not be afraid. I am here to help you.
I was afraid of dogs, because I remember my Mom running from them. And, they sensed her fear so they chased us. :) That was a fear that just sort of caught on because I saw her fear, (+ the dogs were nipping at our heals :) But, I was afraid of the dark, too. And, I was afraid of death because you are buried in the dark grave. Sometimes I woke up in the middle of the night, in the dark, and all I could see was shadows. These shadows around my room took on a life of their own, becoming dogs in varying poses, shapes, and sizes. I lay there paralyzed with fear, afraid to move until a scream escaped from my mouth finally. I had other fears too. And, I had nightmares, sleep walking, and would run through the house with my blanket in terrors in my sleep. This ended when I found Jesus at the age of fourteen. Good thing for my family. Can you imagine living with a child that wakes up the house screaming in the night?
When we went to get our "shots," I would cry, so they had to give my younger sisters shots first, otherwise I would scare them before they ever got their shots.
But, my Mother passed her driver's license test the day I got mine at age 16. She had never driven before that. She had been a single Mom until I was about 7, then our step-dad drove. I remember walking to town shopping with her holding my hand. She was a beautiful woman, thin with long jet black hair, and still quite young at about 23. I was only about 5, but I realized why construction workers whistled and called out rude things when we walked by. But, my Mom held her head high and kept walking. I was afraid, but she had my hand. And, looking at the determination in her face, I could see that she was not scared. So, I was comforted by her holding my hand.
This verse in Isaiah says God is holding our hand. How beautiful! Nothing to worry about at all. He is taking care of us and He has it all under control. :) Very comforting.
