Expectations play a large part in our mindset. I've read that the human brain tends to filter our experiences through our expectations before deciding if we can be happy. In other words, anything can happen and we could be happy in any circumstance, so long as it fits our mental picture of how it is supposed to be. That sounds about right to me. It explains why some people can't ever be happy, no matter what is going on, while others can live through horrible circumstances and still be happy. Some of us just need to change our filters...they get clogged with all the dirt we see around us I guess.
Psalms 4:6-7 There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us. Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.
You see, it's not about circumstances, but attitudes. When the light of God's face is shining inside your heart, we can see the beauty in our circumstances. The Psalmist sees that he is happier with God 's light than he is with material blessings. His filters were clear.
I think I had better get inside with my laptop. I feel a couple of raindrops. here comes the rain.
