God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling.Psalm 46:1-3
Unemployment is more than a long word... it's a sentence. It's often a death sentence for a family, and at the very least, a jail sentence. When a parent is suddenly unemployed, they no longer have weekends. They are unemployed 7 days a week/ 24 hours a day. Their entire life is in upheaval. They lose beyond income, to savings, dignity, self-respect, friends, and the emotional support of family and friends who are working, and consequently often don't understand why they are not able to find a job. Their day revolves around looking for a job and seeking income through last ditch resources.
And, they often pray for help the hardest they have ever prayed in their lives. They go to bed at night wondering how thy will be able to support their children another day. You may think there is nothing you can do about this national unemployment crisis, but you can help. You can pray for someone you know who is unemployed. Say a prayer for their needs. Don't let them pray alone. And, if you are unaware of those unemployed around us, then just drive by the local unemployment office at 7:45 tomorrow morning.
