The story started with God doing this and God doing that... then Adam got hired as God's second in command and we read that Adam named every living creature- and that was its name. They were a couple of workmen taking turns with tasks, though Adam was certainly the junior partner, with a significantly lower production quota than God. Then, Satan began to do his tasks, at no one's bidding. And, Mother listened to everyone speaking.
I've heard the conjecture that Eve heard of God's commandment 2nd hand from Adam, because she replied to the serpent's question with a few more words than God had originally included in the injunction against eating of the one tree. That could be the case, and Adam may have added the extra words that Eve said. It's entirely possible that she heard it first hand and in typical motherly caution insisted that it shouldn't even be touched. (Women even tend to wear the brakes out faster on cars than men do, because of this type of caution.) But, regardless of where Eve got her information, she knew the right answer.
Genesis 3:2-3 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
"Isn't it true that you have 'carte blanche' permission for shopping here in the garden?" (My own UAV Unauthorized Version)
She couldn't have it. So she was just 'window shopping.' But, the salesman made Mother Eve an offer she couldn't refuse. And, she didn't. Then the scheme of things changed in the garden. Everything that followed happened to the woman and her husband together.
Mother saw... Mother took and her husband with her.
Both ate the fruit.
Both saw that they were naked.
Both went to work making clothing.
They both heard God's voice nearby.
They both hid.
They both answered to God.
They were both punished.
They moved to a new neighborhood.
The whole family went wrong together, because Mother Eve was deceived. Only four times she spoke was recorded. She answered the Serpent correctly. She answered God by blaming the Serpent. Then we hear of first her excitement when her first son is born... "It''s a boy!" She proudly exclaims. The last thing we hear from this proud mother is that God has replaced her dead child with another boy. Rough telling of a rough story... of quite primitive people. Yet, Mother made decisions that effected the whole family, just as always.
Fortunately, the principle works in positive situations, just as it does in negative situations. When mothers make good choices, the whole family prospers. It has justly been noted that, "The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world." There are many examples in the Bible of Mothers who led their children and husbands to good and bad choices; like the Mother of Herodious, the Mother of Jacob, the Mother of Moses, and the Mother of Samuel. Then, there was the Mother of Jesus.
Mother, don't forget how important you are, today as always. Everyone listens to you. They all are waiting to hear your take on the matter. They will make their decisions based on your answer. You will set the pace for the entire family, for it is you who moves every step the family takes. (Heads never walk.) When Mother is mistaken, the whole family will be mistaken with her. But, when Mom get's it right, the whole family will enjoy the blessings of her decisions. Happy Day to you Movers and Shakers of the Family!
