This same idea of a measure of prominence has been carried over to other areas as well. In Physics, there is the Einstein number. In Chess there is the Paul Morphy number. In Linguistics, there is the Noam Chomsky Number. And, of course, in acting there is the Kevin Bacon Index.
As a matter of fact, Bacon is the subject of the trivia game titled Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, based on the idea that, due to his prolific screen career covering a diverse range of genres, any Hollywood actor can be linked to another in a handful of steps based on their associations with Bacon. The name of the game is taken from the idea of six degrees of separation between any two people. (Bacon later formed the charitable initiative SixDegrees.org, a social networking site intended to link people and charities to each other.)
The Oracle Of Bacon gives the mathematical Index number for any star, in terms of their working relationship with Kevin Bacon.
As, human beings, we are influenced by other human beings. It can be noted that “birds of a feather flock together” for more reasons than genetics. Take the case of Alfred North Whitehead who said about the Bible, “The total absence of humor from the Bible is one of the most singular things in all literature.” Whitehead was not only an atheist but greatly influenced the doctoral thesis work of Bertrand Russell, mentioned earlier. But, the idea that the Bible is devoid of humor has to be taken by a person who is totally uninformed in its contents. I would have to disagree, as there is much to find as humorous in the Bible. I only briefly touched on the subject of humor in the Bible on my Kid’s Website subpage “Riddled With Humor,” because much of the humor in the Bible is not Sunday School type material.
Regardless, of where you find yourself, in relation to the Chessmasters, the Actors, the Scientists, the Mathematicians, the Christians, the Agnostics, and the Atheists; you are within two degrees separation from God and Eternal Life. Either you know Him or you don’t. Nothing else matters in the grand scheme of eternity. It won’t matter if you worked with someone who knew Him, or if someone who knew Him prayed for you. All that matters is your relationship to God.
Philippians 3:8-11 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but rubbish, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having my own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
