Luke 20:17-18 And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
The verse is a metaphor, because Jesus was comparing Himself to the chief cornerstone in a building's foundation. The corner stone was the stone the that the rest of the building was laid out on in the foundation. But, in Jesus' metaphor, He pointed out that the religious people of His day rejected this "rock" as being not good enough for the establishment. They were afraid He would "shake things up," which He did, even in His death.
Today was Good Friday, but we know there was a resurrection. We know that stone became not only the head of the corner, but the turning point of civilization as we know it here in the year of our Lord Two Thousand and Thirteen A.D.
